Book Recommendations for Parents

Here are some books that I've read that have helped me to understand my students better not as students, but as people.  They are very useful for anyone to read!  I will continue to add books as I read them.

I am putting these links up not to encourage you to buy from a certain seller or to buy at all, but just so you may find more information about these books if you are interested.

Thanks!

Personality Plus by Florence Littaur

This book is like many others in that in talks about different personality types.  You know, the ones we've all heard of:  extrovert, introvert, etc.  It does a great job of explaining the different types of personalities, how they "tick," and what makes them go or stop.  It was amazing how it opened my eyes in my classroom!  It's also a fun read -- it's so funny because it's so true!

The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman

I know, this book has a sappy lavender cover with a picture of a beach on it.  That made me shy away from it at first, but I am so glad I read it!  It only took me a couple of days to read it.  This book talks about how people feel love in different ways, and how different people feel love the strongest in different ways.  This has helped me let my students know that they are appreciated in different ways.  Some want high-fives, some want special gifts, and some just want to hear "good job!".  I know that this doesn't always fit the classroom dynamic, but knowing that a certain student appreciate getting a sticker more than a high-five has helped me very much.  The Five Love Languages of Children is on my list of books to read, but the original has already been very informative in my classroom!
